Microblading and Semi-Permanent Makeup – FAQs

Microblading semi-permanent makeup faqs

Does it hurt?

I’ve started with this question as it’s one of the main concerns my clients have. I’ve also written a comprehensive blog post dedicated to this question alone but, in short, microblading (and any semi-permanent treatment) can be mildly uncomfortable.

Whilst I do all I can to minimise the discomfort you’ll experience, you may still feel some mild sensations during your treatment. Fortunately, most clients say afterwards that it was far less painful than they’d initially expected and it’s often been compared to the discomfort of using tweezers to pluck out unwanted hairs on the skin.

Will I need to shave my eyebrows off?

No! Microblade eyebrows are designed to enhance your existing brows to create a fuller, beautifully shaped natural look so you certainly won’t need to shave your eyebrows beforehand.

What if I don’t have any natural eyebrows?

Following on from the question above, there are several reasons you may have no eyebrows, or very thin, sparse brows. This can typically be the result of over-plucking, alopecia or chemotherapy treatment. Regardless of the circumstances, I can create natural looking brows where none exist and tailor the shape and colour to suit your desired look.

How long does it take?

For any semi-permanent makeup treatment, the time it takes can depend on a wide variety of factors. Some of our treatments can be carried out in under an hour whilst the more in-depth treatments can take up to 2 hours. Your individual requirements and the type of treatment you require are the predominant factors to take into account. You can also be assured that I’ll never rush any of the treatments I offer and will take as long as is needed to get the perfect results for you.

A follow-up appointment of around 4 to 12 weeks after your initial treatment is recommended but this typically only takes around 30 minutes.

How long does semi-permanent makeup last for?

This varies from client to client and also depends on many different factors ranging from exposure to sunlight or excessive UV, daily skincare routines and the natural oil production of your skin. It’s important to remember that semi-permanent makeup is pretty resilient and you can generally expect microblading to last between 12 and 18 months and machine method between 3-5 years although yearly colour boosters are needed to keep pigments fresh in colour. Amongst other things, this will be discussed at your appointment and I’ll also give you detailed information on how to care for your beautiful new look in order to keep it looking sharper for longer.

Is there an aftercare regime I need to follow?

I’ll provide you with a comprehensive fact sheet after your treatment that will explain all the things you’ll need to know. Some of the more important points to bear in mind are ensuring that you don’t get the area wet for around 2 weeks afterwards, protecting your skin against strong UV rays and avoiding abrasive products such as exfoliators.

Do I have to have a top-up session?

This is entirely optional and not absolutely essential but I really do recommend a follow-up appointment for all the treatments I offer. As time passes, your semi-permanent treatment will fade naturally so it’s a great idea to pop in for a follow-up session and have your semi-permanent eyeliner, brows or lips treated to a quick touch-up session.

How do I prepare for my visit to you?

There’s nothing that you need to do beforehand but I do ask that you avoid alcohol both the night before and also on the day.
